CHESTER -- Mrs. Wright, 58, of 763 Springwood Lakes Road, Chester, husband of Pris Hunter Wright died Tuesday, May 10, 2005.
Born in Chester County, September 11, 1946, he was a son of the late Honorable Luther Clark Wright, Jr., and Virginia Lee Brown Wright. He was a graduate of Chester Senior High School and was the current owner and operator of Wright's Home for Funerals. He had also served as Coroner of Chester County since 1989.
Mr. Wright was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chester. He was Deputy Coroner for 9 1/2 years before being elected Coroner in 1989. He became a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners in Springfield, Missouri in 2002. He became the first Forensic Examiner in South Carolina and at the same time became the first forensic examiner in the nation to graduate from this college. In 2003, he attended classes in Homeland Security in Scottsdale, Arizona which enabled him to instruct classes in Homeland Security.
Mr. Wright was a member of South Carolina Coroner's Association and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are a daughter and son-in-law Stacey W. and Stephen Gantt of Greenwood, and a son Chet Wright of Pineville, NC. He was predeceased by a brother Luther Clark 'Clarkie"' Wright, III.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm this (Thursday) evening at Wright's Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at Bethel United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM on Friday, May 13, 2005 with Rev. A. Melton Arant, Jr., Rev. Terry Wingate, and Rev. Barry Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Chester Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Thomas, George Vastis, Gus Poulos, Terry Hutto, Ralph Garris, John Lewis, and Sam Stone. Honorary Pallbearers will be The South Carolina Coroner's Association, John King, Cleve Brown, James Gore and Moses Caldwell.
The family is at the home on Springwood Lakes Road.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005 or to the charity of one's choice.
