Mr. Parker, 84, died on March 5, 2008 at CMC Mercy Hospital after several months of declining health. He was born in Charlotte on August 21, 1923, the third child of John Johnston Parker, originally of Monroe, and Maria Burgwin Maffitt Parker, originally of Wilmington. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy in the Second World War and the Korean Conflict.
He was admitted to the bar in 1949 and enjoyed a highly distinguished legal career. After graduation from law school, he joined the law firm of Taliaferro, Clarkson & Grier and spent his entire career with that firm, now named Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein L.L.P. I had the pleasure of practicing with Francis from the RTP and Raleigh Office of Parker Poe for 12 years. I am proud to have been associated him and to have worked with one of the giants of the profession, a gentleman and a scholar. Well done, Francis...

Frank and I lived across the street on Queens Road and were the best of friends from the early '40's. We maintained this friendship through the years with visit to Charlotte and many phone calls.

Mr. Parker was the epitomy of a southern gentleman. I had the honor of knowing him while working at Parker Poe in the real estate and lending department many years ago. He always greeted everyone by their name and with a smile and most of the time a funny quip about something. He had the coolest car - you could always see him coming. I was saddened to see that he had passed but he's up in heaven getting the real estate titles all in order. God bless.
