Frederick Fisher Obituary

Frederick Wayne Fisher
Frederick Wayne Fisher, 90, engineer, Army officer, father and expert fisherman departed this life on December 26, 2006. The son of Russell A. Fisher and Garnet Mendenhall Fisher, he was born on July 10, 1916 on the family farm west of Winchester, IN. He is survived by his sister, Edna Fisher Fields of Winchester, and was predeceased by his brother, Bernard A. Fisher.
Fred Fisher graduated from Lincoln High School of Winchester in 1935, where he played baseball and basketball. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Purdue University in 1940 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In World War II, he remained overseas for thirty-three months achieving the rank of Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers. He served in Northern Africa, Italy and France. After the war, he returned to work for forty years as a District Sales Manager with Whiting Corporation, a crane manufacturer.
Mr. Fisher and his first wife, the late Evalyn Wilson Fisher of Green Hill, IN, moved to Charlotte, NC in 1955, where they raised four sons who survive them: Thomas R. Fisher of Statesville; Stewart W. Fisher of Durham; Jon P. Fisher of Mountain Home and Don F. Fisher of Huntersville. After Evalyn passed away, Mr. Fisher married Octavia 'Ta' Temple Fisher. He regarded Ta's daughter, Dr. Libby Edwards and son-in-law Clayton S. Owens of Waxhaw as his own. He left behind ten beloved grandchildren: Kira, Amos, Emily, Lindsay, Jonathan, Nettie, Henry, and Rose Fisher; Alex Swann, and Sarah Owens.
Fred Fisher enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer and a member of Carmel Country Club since 1955. He loved gardening, working in his shop, playing the guitar and singing. A talented cook, he loved entertaining his family and friends. He absolutely adored his deceased dogs: Tippy, a Collie mix; Knight, a Labrador retriever; and Prince, a Boston Terrier. Yet he will best be remembered as an expert fisherman who hand-made his own fishing rods and lures and caught many a largemouth bass from the waters of Lake Wylie.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel 10500 Park Road Charlotte, NC 28210.
Memorials may be made to the North Carolina Wildlife Fund 1751 Varsity Drive Raleigh, NC 27606.

You guys probably dont remember me but my grandparents (Charles & Dorothy Brown) use to live next door to Fred. I remember as a child going over to see him and his dogs. He would let us play on his pier and boat ramp. Even though is has been many years since I have seen him I will always remember those days. For the whole family you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
