Freddie,
You are sadly missed but I know that you are in a great place and no longer in pain. Your courage and kindness are remember always. You left my life better for having known you. I miss our lunch dates and trips, our conversations and cooking together and our life together as a couple. You were my rock! You could always be counted on. You went above the call of duty. Our love for each other was grounded in respect for each other's character. I remember you today and every day with love ❤

Buddy and I met Fred through my wonderful, longtime friend Wanda. They were a coupe for many years and she became his wife. I must say Fred had very good taste and chose well. We saw Fred though the years on his travels to Tennessee and our travels to Florida to visit. He was always hospitable and always could tell good stories with a humorous touch. We enjoyed meals together at many restaurants and in his home. We laughed a great deal and had a good
time.
He fought the good fight and gave it all in his battle to defeat cancer. We will miss our time with him.

My mom & Dad, Wanda and J.S.Fillers, traveled with us to Florida more than once. Fred and Wanda took all of us to a Favorite pizza place and we went back to their home to visit. We were visiting at Indian Rocks at the time. Later we went to visit Wanda with them. Fred graciously took them around the Tampa area to see sights and to see baseball parks. They enjoyed Fred's stories and talking to him on many subjects.

"Small service is true service while it lasts,
Of humblest friends, bright creature, scorn not one;
The daisy by the shadow which it casts
Protects the lingering dewdrop of the sun".
-LITTLE KINDNESSES by William Wordsworth.
This poem speaks to my heart regarding Our Good Friend Freddy. Why? Because for me, his kindness would almost always manifest in what would be assumed as small doses. But when judging in a brighter perspective, it was true, brilliant, and truly larger than life. Someone once said it is far better to fall in truth and action than to thrive in falsehood and intentions. Freddy lived this creed with dignified style; while maintaining a deliciously wicked sense of humor. Even in his constant pain, I can still see those impish blue eyes and that Cheshire Cat smile... to say that I was honored to know my marvelous friend is an understatement. All the best and God Bless my dear, mischievous, witty, and awesome friend. I do love you always, and sir, you will always be a hero to me.

Hi Wanda,
I am not technology savvy and couldn't figure out exactly how to navigate through the many screens and options from which to choose . What I would like to say about Freddie is that we grew up together going to the same church and school from grammar school through high school. He was one of my best friends during this time. We had many classes together. We worked on different projects in shop. We rode together from Matthews school to East Mecklenburg High School each day with another mutual friend who had a car, Johnny Taylor. We had good fellowship during these high school years.
After graduation from high school, we parted ways as he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and I in the U, S, Air Force. I was in the Air Force for three and a half years, two and a half of which were overseas. I graduated from college and seminary and served two years in Germany as pastor and later in Taiwan as a missionary for twenty-seven years. During these years Freddie and I had no contact with each other. I was very happy to see him at our High School Class of 57 fiftieth year reunion.
I remember Freddie as an encourager. He was smart. He had a gentle spirit with a humble demeanor, and he made us all feel comfortable and included in whatever projects we were doing together. He had a good sense of humor and was fun to be around.
We have lost a good friend. I wish we had had more time together, but we are thankful for getting together during his last years in this life. I am especially glad that I got to talk with him shortly before his passing. He sounded strong, confident and in a good spirit.
God's blessings to you with our love,
Betty and Charles

Having met Fred only twice, I know him best through the love and selfless devotion of his wife, my dearest friend for many years, Wanda. I admired and respected their loving and giving relationship with each other, and their loyalty and tremendous love for Clint. My prayers are for gentleness and peace for them both, in this world and beyond. I love you Wanda; you are an exceptional person.

Freddy was a childhood friend and classmate growing up in Matthews,N.C. I was happy to get to know him as an adult when he and Wanda came to several of our East High School class reunions. He always seemed to be a gentleman. I'm glad I had the chance to know him more recently.

Fred was a generous, hard-working man who was taken from us far too soon. It took a little work to gain his respect, but once you earned it, he was as close a companion as you could hope for. In a world full of questions and uncertainties, he was a solid rock you could always count on. I'm going to miss my friend.

Fred was a great man. Actually, since it is my opinion that we survive physical death, it would be more correct to say he remains a great guy. When Wanda and I lost our son Clint to cancer almost nine years ago, Fred was of incredible assistance. RIP Fred.

Fred, even while you faced your own health challenges, I will always remember and be grateful to you for the love and support that you showed my best friend as she faced her own son's tragic battle with cancer. Now, so many years later, I am grateful that you were able to support each other through this last difficult trial you faced together. Rest in peace.
