Charlotte, North Carolina - George Arthur Emilio, 94, of Charlotte NC., died Friday, September 2nd, 2022, at Atrium Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A native of Brooklyn N.Y., he was the son of Francesco Emilio from Sicily, Italy and Laura Gattis Emilio from Rome, Georgia.
George was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Force during the occupation of Japan. After serving his country, he attended RCA Institute in Manhattan and later graduated from Brooklyn Polytech Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering. George spent most of his career at Grumman Aerospace in Long Island and was responsible for many successful proposals for government contracts. He was a talented woodworker, carpenter and stonemason who loved to spend his weekends working around the home with a song and a smile for every project. He retired with his wife Betty to Asheville and later Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he enjoyed visits from his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty (nee Reynolds). He is survived by his three daughters, Donna Marie King, and her husband Clifford of Charlotte, Roseanne Winn and her husband, Christopher of Lawrenceville, GA., and Laura Tracey Thomsen and her husband, Trevor of Charlotte, a son George Arthur Emilio, Jr. and his wife Susmita of Ashburn VA., a sister Charlotte of Wrens, GA.; four grandchildren, Brianna Elizabeth King, Nicholas George Emilio, Jasmine Alicia Emilio, and Annabel Hongmiao Winn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
