Gilbert Sossamon Obituary
Mr. Gilbert Hoover Sossamon, Sr. 77, died March 24th, 2007 peacefully at home with his wife by his side after a long battle of cancer. He was born on December 7, 1929 in Cabarrus County to the late John C. and Blanche Barringer Sossamon. He was owner and operator of Electrical Repairs until he retired in 1996. After his retirement he continued to work as electrical contractor for Wiggins Construction. Mr. Sossamon was a member of Cedar Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and loved his family and church. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Wayne Sossamon and three brothers, Melvin, Donald and Leonard Sossamon. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Boling Sossamon, 3 sons, Gilbert H. Sossamon, Jr. (Kathy) of Pageland, SC, Kenneth Dale Sossamon of Monroe, Carl Michael Sossamon (Annette) of Monroe, 4 daughters, Lois Smith, Joyce Tyson (Don), Brenda Bigham (Daniel) all of Monroe, and Melissa Ann Sossamon of Trap Hill, along with 16 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brother, J. C. Sossamon, and sister, Ann McDougall, both of Mt. Pleasant. The family received friends Monday evening. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sossamon will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 27th, at Cedar Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Monroe. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, NC.
