Godfrey Kimball Obituary

PELZER -- Godfrey Click Kimball, Jr., 74, of 114 Robinwood Lane, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at his residence after a short illness.
Born in Statesville, NC, Mr. Kimball was the son of the late Godfrey Click, Sr. and Katherine Brawley Kimball. He served in the US Army after being drafted twice - in 1947 and again from 1952-1954. Mr. Kimball was a University of Mississippi graduate in 1952 and employed by Celanese, Kendall, and most recently retired from Gerber in 1996. He was the 2000 Jefferson Award winner; served on the board of directors for A Child's Haven, where he was also an active volunteer; board of directors for the Greenville County Mental Health; one-time Guardian ad Litem volunteer; an adult and child tutor for the Greenville Literacy Project; a Greenville County Helpline volunteer; a past member of the Elks Club, Rock Hill Chapter; and active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Godfrey C. III and Leslie Hull Kimball. Mr. Kimball was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Martha McLain Kimball; his parents; and a brother, John Vance Kimball.
A Life Celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on State Park Road, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal R. Jones. A family graveside service will be later in the week at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC at the McLain family grave. In lieu of flowers, please honor Mr. Kimball with memorials to the United Ministries, 606 Pendleton Street,Greenville, SC 29601.
Cremation Society of South Carolina, Greenville is handling arrangements.
