Grant Richardson Obituary

Grant Allen Richardson
MOORESVILLE -- Mr. Richardson, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Born May 19, 1939, in Chicago Heights, IL, he was a son of the late Albert F. and Anna Mae Richardson. Grant was a retired Senior Executive Manager for IBM, Charlotte. After retiring from IBM, he established Black Hawk Alliance Consulting which led to his position as General Manager for 600 Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He treasured time with his family and friends, playing Santa, watersking, ladies in purple, golfing, boating on the lake, and 'doing what he was told.' He was a veteran of the US Air Force and member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius. Grant was the Co-Founder of the Dove House in Statesville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Patti; daughters, Kim Marie Welzel, of Arvada, CO, Tracy Starnes and son-in-law, Wayne, of Harrisburg, and Lisa Oxidine and son-in-law, Randy, of Cornelius; brother, Lee Richardson and sister-in-law, Sue, of Crete, IL; grandchildren, Cayla and Mitchell Starnes and Gavin, Griffin and Greyson Oxidine; father-in-law, Don Edwards, Sr., of NY; sister-in-law, Linda Susan Lott, of Kannapolis; brother-in-law, Don Edwards and sister-in-law, Linda, of NY; the extended families, the Ladniers, of Grand Bay, AL, and the Edwards, of NY; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius, with Rev. Jill S. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Family Life Center of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dove House, P.O. Box 825, 328 East Broad St., Statesville, NC 28687.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Grant.
Heartfelt thanks to the Lake Norman Hospice Family especially to Beth and Ben for their loving compassion, and for the support from Dr. Kuo and nurse, Pat.
