Hal Wesley Murdock, Sr.
TROUTMAN -- Surrounded by his loved ones, Mr. Hal Wesley Murdock, Sr., age 67, of Statesville, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
He had lived in the Troutman community most of his life but had moved to the North Carolina mountains near Sparta the last couple of years. Due to his health, he had recently moved back to the Statesville area.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was a very compassionate man who gave generously to his fellow man.
Born September 28, 1938, in Iredell County, he graduated from Troutman High School. He helped his father and brothers on the dairy farm for a number of years but later joined the N. C. Department of Motor Vehicles and retired as a lieutenant after having served 24 years.
Hal was the youngest son of John Carl Murdock and Mamie Wallace Murdock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert, Harry, Roger, J.C. and Paul Dean Murdock.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Turbyfill Murdock, of Statesville; a son, Hal Wesley Murdock, Jr. and wife, Tracey, of Mooresville; a daughter, Amy Brown and husband, Michael, of Troutman; grandchildren, Crystal and D. J. McDonald, Gage and Daniel Brown, all of Troutman, and Lindsey, Brooke, Ryan and Olivia Murdock, all of Mooresville; brothers, Grady, Kenard, Russell and Sheldon Murdock of Troutman; step-daughter, Tracy Ford and husband, Len, and step-granddaughter, Haley, of Kingwood, TX; stepson, Greg Abernethy and step-granddaughter, Lanie, of Burnsville; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Hal's family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at Troutman Funeral Home in Troutman. Funeral services to celebrate Hal's life were held at 11:00 on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with the Rev. Tommy Beaver and the Rev. Rick Lindamood of Ennice, NC officiating. Burial followed at Iredell Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for the service were Pat Murdock, Scott Heath, Randy Murdock, Bruce Murdock, Johnny Murdock, Rick Murdock and Robert Rudisill.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, 28625 or the Restoration and Expansion Fund, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 225 Morgan Street, Troutman, NC 28166.

i worked with hal many years at licsene and theft in salisbury he was a very good person always ready to help

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Brother Hal was a sweet, humble person with a good heart and would give the shirt off of his back to someone.



I will surely miss him and pray that we all can see him again in glory.
