Charlotte, North Carolina - Henry Walter Eddy, Jr., 70, of Charlotte, peacefully passed away November 5, 2021, surrounded by family. Known by many as Walter or Walt, he was born October 3, 1951, in Charlotte, to his beloved parents, Henry Walter Eddy and Mary Elizabeth Bivens Eddy. He graduated from Garinger High School in 1969 and earned a degree from North Carolina State University in 1973. Walter met and fell in love with Mary Lynn McIver in 1972 and they married in 1973. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary McIver Eddy, his brother David Eddy and wife Judy, his sister Cathy Fulbright and husband Brian, and his three devoted daughters, Carey Campbell and husband Justin, Liz Daly and husband Patrick, and Megan Foley and husband David. Walter had 9 loyal grandchildren whom he cherished: Arlen (16), Clarke (12), Lars (10), Evelyn (7), Caroline (6), John Henry (5), Lucas (4), Wilson (3), and James (1). He will also be missed by his spirited boxer, Molly.
Walter earned his Eagle Scout at a young age. He was well-known in Charlotte for his furniture refinishing business, The Strip Shop. He was very handy and could fix anything. He was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed his friendships made at Cedarwood Country Club. Walter loved to hit the open road, owning many motorcycles throughout his life. He delighted in spending time under an umbrella on the beach or operating his tractor at their scenic mountain property in Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, at Plaza Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
