Charlotte, North Carolina - Mr. Herbert Davis, 73 of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday February 11, 2021. Graveside service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, February 14, 2021. York Memorial Park. Visitation Saturday February 13, 2021 5:00-6:00pm. Grier Funeral Service Inc. 115 John McCarroll Avenue entrusted with arrangements.

What a wonderful teacher. I was was student of his back in the 1970´s. Always kind, generous and supportive. He is one of a handful of teachers that truly impacted me.

My condolences to your family. Coach Davis taught me at South Mecklenburg, class of 1984.
My daughters graduated South Meck. Class of 2018, 2019 and I would see Coach Davis at the basketball games (they were cheerleaders).
It was a pleasure to watch him as he watched the student basketball players which he was so fond of.
Recently I did a search on segregation in CMS and found interesting facts on Coach Davis. He was a trailblazer!
Thanks for being an awesome teacher leader and inspiration.

I’m so sorry to hear this as I was hoping to reconnect with Hebert as soon as the pandemic ends. Herbert has a heart of gold and knew how to illuminate those around him. He gave me the chance of a lifetime when he asked me to play on the Davis brothers summer league team. The family took me under their extended wing and gave me confidence to believe in myself. I could never thank him enough. My prayers and tears of joy go out to the family. Herb will always be with us! This is a painting I’ve recently finished of Walter. While working on it, I kept thinking of Herb, and Harry. These 3 brothers will remain heroes of mine forever.

Dear Mr. Davis, Thank you for being a Guidance to me. Because of you, I became a Historian at my Local American Legion Post. I've been their Historian for the past 8 years, and I will be serving a 9th year at my post. Thank you for your dedication to your Students and your Coaching duties. Also, thank you for letting me help you when you needed help either picking up or delivering reupholstered furniture. In 1979/81. You will be very well missed by everyone that you had touched in their lives.

Mr. Davis was my favorite teacher! I loved his class and he made History so fun. I never wanted to miss one of his classes. He had such a connection with each and everyone of his students. He was such an inspiration and instilled in me such a love of History. I will never forget his energy and compassion he put into each one of his lessons and most of all the love he had for his students. Thank you so much Mr. Davis!
