James Flanders Obituary

James E. Flanders, Sr. CHARLOTTE - James E. Flanders, Sr., well known band director and teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system, died on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Flanders was well-known to students in Newton, NC, Gastonia, NC, and throughout the Charlotte, NC region. He was also a talented jazz musician who played saxophone with some of the world's greatest artists, including jazz great Bud Powell. He is survived by his four children, Gwendolyn Blackmon, Goldwyne Owusu, Abigail L. Flanders and James Flanders, Jr.; and one sister, Diane Porter. Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 with visitation from noon to 1pm at First United Presbyterian Church. The funeral will follow at 1pm. Interment will be at the Emmanuel Cemetery. Grier Funeral Service, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

My condolences to the Flanders' family. I worked with Mr. Flanders several years and he was highly thought of by all the students he worked it.
