Boone, North Carolina - James "Jim" C. Hastings, 81, of Boone, NC, and Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community leader whose life was marked by faith, love, resilience, and service. Born in Casar, NC, in a home lovingly called "Delight," he defied the odds from birth and went on to lead a life of deep purpose. A childhood polio survivor and the first in his high school to letter in three sports, Jim's story was one of determination and gratitude.

He spent 61 years with his beloved wife, Karen, a proud father to Michaele and Cory, and cherished "Pappaw" to eight grandchildren. From porch singalongs at Oak Island to adventures across the globe, Jim brought warmth and joy to every moment.

His career spanned public service, business, and leadership in church and civic organizations, including the Jaycees, where he influenced countless lives. A three-time recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, he also served under Governor Holshouser and was very active in the Republican Party. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Deerfield UMC in Boone, NC, with a greeting and lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be made to Meals on Wheels, Sarasota (PO Box 178, Sarasota, FL 34230); Santa's Toy Box (PO Box 1337, Boone, NC 28607); or the NC Zoo Society (4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205).
