James Hood Obituary

James Pratt Hood, Jr.
Mr. Hood, devoted son of Novella and the late James P. Hood Sr., father of Darien Taylor-Hood, and brother of Laird and Vanessa Hood, departed this life March 18, 2009.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at A.E. Grier & Sons Chapel, 2310 Statesville Avenue, beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rayfield Medcalf officiating. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be on Monday, March 23rd at 10 a.m. at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
A graduate of Central Piedmont Community College, he was affectionately known as J.P., Brother, Waheed, Unique, Coach, and Big Boy. Whatever the names, his beautiful spirit will be missed by so many who considered him family or friend. His charismatic smile drew people from all walks of life to him. His genuine regard for others as well as the pearls of wisdom he spread, kept people close in the circle of his embrace. Included in his list of achievements and accomplishments, his business ventures led him to become CEO of Unique Views, President of James Pratt Hood Jr.'s Tax Service, and Owner of Sankofa Cultural Center and Bookstore.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving son, Darien Taylor-Hood, his loving and supportive mother, Novella Hood, a sister, whom he not only loved but also admired and looked up to, Vanessa Hood of Winston-Salem, his devoted love, Leslie Carmichael, and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The legacy of his particular way of loving will live forever in all the lives he touched.
In the spirt if James, we bid him Ashe-Ashe.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of the sudden passing of a young, talented young man. When our Father looked around his mansion and noticed that a beautiful soul by the name of James Pratt Hood, Jr. and also affectionately known as J.P., Brother, Waheed, Unique, Coach, and Big Boy, GOD decided that this spiritually soul was needed in one of his many mansions on March 18, 2009. GOD heals all sorrows and pain! Remember this....The SPIRIT of GOD will never take you where the GRACE of GOD will not protect you!
We will continue to pray for all the lives affected by the passing of this young man. Rest in peace Waheed...
Sincerely,
Ja’Juan and Kimouri Massey....children of Juan Massey
