Jane Tompkins Obituary

Jane McCoy Tompkins
September 20, 1927 - February 27, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Jane left this world in peace February 27, 2022. She was the embodiment of kindness and unconditional love. Jane attended Women's College, (now UNC Greensboro) until she met Joe Tompkins, whom she married in 1949. She became a single mother of three at the age of 27 and faced the challenge of being both nurturer and provider. She worked as a secretary and executive assistant for General Aniline and Film (later GAF) until her retirement in 1992. After her retirement, she enjoyed watching cooking shows, exercising at the YWCA, and nurturing her grandchildren. Throughout her life, Jane was a fashion icon who never left her house without her red lipstick. When Jane moved into assisted living, she made dear new friends and found devoted caregivers for the last four years of her life.
Jane is predeceased by Charles Rufus McCoy, Lucy Torrence McCoy, Charles McCoy, Ann McCoy Darracott, John McCoy, Joseph Henry Tompkins III and Brian Palmer. She is survived by Lucia Tompkins, Joye Palmer, Lucia Palmer (Wes Gibson), grand-dog Desi and many loving family members.
The memorial service for Jane Tompkins will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the church.

Aunt Jane was a wonderful Aunt and I loved her laugh and her knowledge of politics. I used to love to hear my brother, Chuck, and Jane discuss politics and I always got a kick out of their conversations. She also used to bake the best (from scratch) coconut cake. She was a very sweet, good- natured person who truly loved her children so much. I always admired her for raising her three children single handedly and did a wonderful job. I will miss her dearly but I know that she is in heaven with her beloved sister Ann and her parents and her siblings.
May God bless her and know that she was dearly loved by all.

Sheila McCoy Ervin-Niece and daughter of her brother Charles McCoy.
