Jean Halsey Obituary

Jean Halsey CHARLOTTE - Jean Halsey went to be with her lord on April 25, 2018. She passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband of 62 years, Maurice, and daughter, Sara, at her side. Jean was born to Ken and Florence Phillips in Bloomington, IL on December 2nd, 1933. She met Maurice as a teenager. They married in 1955 and have been sweethearts ever since. She graduated from Illinois State with a BA in Education and later received her Masters in Special Education from George Mason University in VA. They raised their three children - David, Steven, and Sara in the Chicago suburbs. Jean and Maurice spent eight years in Washington, DC while Maurice worked with The American Gas Association. He then opened and headed an office for the Northern Illinois Gas Co. during the energy crisis of the late 70's. During their time in the DC suburbs, they experienced the tragic loss of their first son David. Son Steve married Nancy McClung and was residing in Northern VA. Daughter Sara married Jeff Foley and moved to Charlotte, NC. Jean and Maurice retired to a beautiful home in Williamsburg, VA where they watched their grandchildren grow as they hosted 18 years of holidays and family functions. After the terrible loss of their second son Steven in 2007, they moved to Charlotte, NC to be near daughter Sara and her family. Jeans passions included traveling the world, interior design, reading, gardening, golf, animals, and being with her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Maurice Halsey; her daughter and best friend Sara Foley, husband Jeff Foley, and their two daughters Lainey and Lizzy Foley; daughter-in-law Nancy Halsey, and her sons Eric, Kevin, and wife Brittany Halsey. They all adored their 'Nana'. Jean was preceded in death by her two wonderful sons David and Steven Halsey. We take solace in knowing she is with the lord and finally reunited with sons David and Steven in heaven. A celebration of her life will be held at the Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00 pm. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
