Jennifer Ferguson Obituary

On the morning of April 17th Jennifer Lynn Kilgore Ferguson " Jen" was called to be by the Lord's side. She passed away peacefully in her home in Huntersville, NC.

On Sunday April 22 the family will receive visitors at the Hartsell Funeral Home on Branchview Drive in Concord, NC from 5-8pm. The celebration of her life will be held on Monday April 23 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Ave, Concord, NC 28025 with internment at St. James cemetery, 2323 Gold Hill Rd., Concord, NC 28025 to follow immediately.

Jen was born in Lancaster, PA on 4/18/1969 to John Thomas Kilgore and the late Susan Roe Kilgore. She is survived by her father Tom Kilgore, stepmother Casey Kilgore and sister Christine Nowroozi and family as well as step siblings Robert Fairchild Jr. and Jennifer Fairchild Borecky and family. She is also survived by her husband Sean C. N. Ferguson, DDS and her three sons. Ryan T. R. Ferguson, born 4/17/1999, Colin M. C. Ferguson, born 9/7/2001 and Evan J. P. Ferguson, born 12/1/2004.

Jen attended Virginia Tech from 1987-1991 earning her degree in Biology. After graduation, she moved to Northern Virginia to be near her father and future husband. She worked in the field of microbiology eventually furthering her career by accepting a job at Virginia Commonwealth University in the field of genetics while her husband attended MCV.

The couple eventually settled in Huntersville to raise their three sons. Jen was never one to sit on the sidelines. If one of her boys was playing a sport you knew she was going to be the team "Mom". She was a regular at the neighborhood bus-stops. Children loved to be around her. She had a way of making every child feel loved and important. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She was a genuine joy to be around.

As her children grew so did her love for them. She taught them the values of love, faith, strength, responsibility and most of all to care for others. Her true legacy lies in the wonderful young men she shaped and left behind to make this world a much better place. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A special thanks to Father Jerome Chavarria of St. James for his compassion, love, care and generosity of spirit that brought great comfort during this trying time.

I grew up with Jen's parents, Susan and Tom, in PA and then watched Jen and Christine grow up in NJ; we even attended her wedding to Sean in VA. We lost touch but I have very fond memories of these days of yore, so to speak. As I have read the other remembrances, I am amazed to again realize the similarities between Jen and her mother. She will truly be missed by all fortunate enough to know her.
Mr husband and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to the entire extended Ferguson, Kilgore and Roe family at this very sad time. May you all be comforted by cherished memories. Most sincerely, Judi and Richard

I just learned of Jens passing from a mutual friend at VCU. As you know, she worked with me for a number of years at the Massey Cancer Center within VCU. I was and am devastated by the news and by the loss. She was one of the warmest, sweetest and most dedicated persons I have ever known. It just hurts and the world is a colder place when you lose such a person. She could light up the room with a smile and defuse difficult situations with a few words. She was never one to be discouraged, and she always came back from a tough time in the lab with a constructive way to proceed and with the attitude that she was not going to held down by momentary setbacks. She was tough, smart, dedicated and just plain special. What a lady. When she left my laboratory, we missed her immediately, but we all knew she was going to a strong marriage with Sean and, over the years, we saw the joy that came with the birth and maturation of each of her sons. What a delightful family showed up in the Christmas cards over the years. God bless them all in this moment and they should rest assured that her presence in their lives will continue throughout time.

Jen and I went to Va Tech together. She was a Theta with me and was so smart, warm, hilarious, and kind and had the best laugh. I never saw her after college but thought of her often and followed her on FB, seeing the love and attention she gave to her family, friends and animals. Every time I read a post I got
a sense of that warmth from Jen, her love of life and her zeal for the next adventure. I will miss her but cherish the light and love she gave to all who knew her. I hold her family close in my heart.

To my dear, sweet friend, Jen: I cherish the times I spent with you and am so heartbroken to hear that are gone. When I transferred from Catholic school to Sampson G. Smith, you were one of the first people to befriend me and we formed a lifelong friendship from thereon. Even though through the years, we lost touch and only communicated on social media and through Christmas and Birthday cards, you remained a true and special friend. I think fondly of memories such as playing on the tennis team, driving around with you when you first got your license, going to the mall and to the movies, and just being silly kids laughing and loving life. I think back to having lunch with you in Richmond, having you and Sean visit Chris and me over a weekend, and talking on the phone with you. You will be so missed and I am heartbroken to know you are no longer here.

Sean, Ryan, Evan and Colin, Mr. Kilgore, and Christine: You had a special wife/mother/daughter/sister and she is now your angel forever. My sincere condolences go out to you and everyone in your family. Cherish your memories as I know I will.

Dear Tom and family,

Bill, Andy, Jill, Wendy and i are heartsick about your loss. I remember Jenny as a kindergartner coming home from school when I would be playing bridge with my dear friend Sue and what a precious and happy little girl she was. Our hearts go out to you all.

I am so very sorry that Jen is gone. She was such a force of light and warmth. I have so many wonderful memories of being close friends with her in high school. I am deeply sorry for your family. I have made a donation in her memory to the Humane Society because she always cared about dogs and posted dogs who needed homes on facebook.
