Jerry Oliver Obituary

Jerry R. Oliver CHARLOTTE - Jerry R. Oliver, 73, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in his home. He was faithfully surrounded by his children and family during his long battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life service will be held 8PM on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Jerry was born January 4, 1939 in Charlotte, NC to James and Esther Oliver. He is survived by four children; Rhonda Monaghan of Mt. Holly, NC, Randy and wife Sherry of Bryson City, NC, Tracy and wife Pam of Harrisburg, NC, and Tony and fianc‚ Amy Mayhue of Charlotte, NC. He was blessed with many loving grandchildren, Michael, Hillary, Devan, Manual, Jesse, Logan, Heavenley, Cody, Harleigh, Harlan, Skyler, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife of 30 years, Joyce Oliver Capps, brother, Donald Oliver and sister Clara Griffith. Jerry graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and served in the United States Air Force before spending his entire career in Water Management Services. He was recently named the oldest person in the State of NC to hold an "A" Certification. Jerry was a 32nd Degree Mason and longtime member of the Westgate Lodge in Charlotte. He was skilled in many trades including carpentry and small engine repairs. He also loved his trips to Cherokee, Biloxi, Tunica and Atlantic City. The family would like to say special thanks to the employees of Presbyterian Hospice, the VA administration, Charlotte Oncology and the Hager family. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to the Shriners Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
