Jill Horner Obituary

Jill Horner CHARLOTTE - Jill Renee Horner, age 37, of Charlotte, passed away after complications of Leukemia on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center. She is survived by her parents Douglas and Roxanne Horner; sisters Brooke Horner and Erin and husband Shane Parrish; her beloved dogs Paisley, Clover and Bailey; as well as her CMC work family. Jill was preceded in death by her beloved dog Barclee. Jill was born in Canton, SD, on August 25, 1977. She was raised in Sioux Falls, SD. After graduating from University of South Dakota with degrees in Psychology and Nursing, Jill started her professional career in the cardiothoracic unit at Duke University Hospital in Durham. In the course of her career, Jill's love of travel, enabled her to touch countless lives and make many friends from Boston to San Diego and many points between. After years of travel nursing, Jill's love of North Carolina brought her to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where she worked as the Liver Transplant Program Manager until her passing. Jill was a selfless, sweet and caring person who always put people and animals first. She worked with several regional rescues to find loving homes for dogs that were scheduled to be euthanized. If she had her way, she would have saved them all. Funeral services celebrating Jill's life will be held Monday, December 15, 2014 at 5:30pm in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until the time of the service. Private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions. Please see complete obituary and contribution details at website below. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service; please share condolences online at www.hankinswhittington.com.

The Central Carolina Liver Associaton offers our condolences to Jill's family and friends. She worked with our non-profit group to help coordinate programs for our monthly CCLA meetings. She was kind and loving, and we are forever grateful for the efforts she made on our behalf.
We are so sorry to hear of her passing, and want you to know that she touched the lives of so many people, directly and indirectly with her efforts.
May you find comfort knowing that we hold her in the highest regard, and although her time here was not as long as we could have hoped, she made a real difference.
God's gift of healing to all who held Jill dear.

I am very sorry to learn of Jill's death. She was my transplant nurse and had been helping me get ready for a transplant one day. She was always on the ball and ready to help. I am very sorry that she lost her battle with cancer. Some things just don't make sense - and this is one of them. From a parent who has lost a child - "Grief is anchored in love, not logic". There are no words and statements to remove the pain or make this less burdensome. I will pray for your family that God will comfort you. Again, I am very sory.
