Charlotte, North Carolina - John Kendrick Berry, 50 of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Atrium Health Center. Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Wednesday June 23, 2021 at Grier Memorial Chapel. Visitation 12:00-1:00pm. Private burial at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Grier Funeral Service Inc. 115 John McCarroll Avenue entrusted with arrangements.

I remember Mr. Berry from Garinger H.S. as one of the BMT's he always had a smile and a positive outlook on life and encouraged ALL students to do the right thing. I ALWAYS looked up to him and loved him like a dad... Mr. Berry, thank you for believing in me!

This lost hit me hard because I've known for The Berry family for most of my life as fellow Hidden Valley residents. His sister, Wanda, braided my hair as a child and was a sitter to my cousins and me. Then John and I became classmates at Northeast and Myers Park(Class of 89.) He always had a great sense of humor and I will always remember that. My deepest condolences and prayers to the family for strength, peace and comfort. RIP John- you are missed and will never be forgotten!

Cousin Cousin, Cousin...I am at a COMPLETE loss for words. Your sweet gentle soul will never be forgotten and the world as we know it will never be the same. My condolences go to the Berry family. I had the opportunity to meet "Big John" at Fayetteville State University and played football with him. He was a great guy to be around and he always said something to make you laugh. John will truly be missed. Thanks for all the rides to the dining hall in the big gray four door Buick. RIP until we meet again.

John you left without a word and I do not know what to say. We just prayed and I wished you a Happy Birthday. I did not know that you would get the best present ever, and that is to see the GOD the FATHER. I wish we had more time my co-worker, friend, and listener. GOD needed you more so for that I am grateful. Save a place for me my homie, until we shall meet again: I pray that GOD gives the family strength, peace, and understanding as to we are just strangers passing through this land. Our condolence to the family. I will always remember the first time I meet John. He was so full of jokes that my sister and I laughed so hard and continued to laugh long after he had left the house. John will be missed by so many. If my son could be here he would definitely be standing by his sister Katrina. John was like his big brother and Katrina his big sister. Katrina I know this is not easy, but trust that God is to wise to make a mistake. May God comfort your heart and keep you through it all. Love you much

John’s sweet, gentle spirit and kindheartedness has touched not only my life but also the many lives of both patients and teammates throughout his employment with Atrium Health. If anyone could connect with another human being through genuine kindness and human caring, it was John. I am thankful for all that he contributed to our nursing team and truly blessed to have known him. He will be missed.

JB was truly one of the kindest men I have ever known. In his profession, he showed depths of compassion that left me in awe of his loving spirit and huge heart. As a co-worker he was steady as could be, an endless source of comedy, and was always that teammate who worked hard to uplift others and keep team morale high. Even in difficult circumstances John was so positive...truly a bright light. He will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.
