John Blackmon Obituary
March 15, 1934 - April 15, 2025
Clemson, South Carolina - John M. Blackmon Jr of Clemson, SC, aged 91, passed away on April 15, 2025. Born on March 15, 1934, he was the youngest son of John Morris Blackmon Sr and Geanette [Neely] Blackmon of Rock Hill, SC.
John graduated from Clemson University, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He and Barbara [White] Blackmon married on June 16, 1956. John was stationed on a US Air Force Base in France in the late 1950s. He joined Heyward Incorporated in Charlotte, NC, in 1963 as a young engineer, eventually rising to CEO. His career there was closely associated with Duke Power Company.
The couple were longtime members of St Luke's Lutheran Church in Charlotte.
John was alifelong fan of the Clemson Tigers and- having served as Class President-helped lead the campaign that funded the 'Class of 1956 Academic Success Center' at his alma mater.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara and four children, Kathryn, John, Robert, and William, and their families.
A service will be held to commemorate John's life at University Lutheran Church, 111 Sloan Street, Clemson, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Barbara and Family, so sorry to hear of John`s passing. I fondly remember him, especially at St. Luke´s , with all of you sitting in the pews just like us. He was a quiet and gentle man loving his Clemson Tigers just like P0P POP loved his South Carolina Gamecocks. They had fun greeting each other on Sunday mornings after each game to rib or congratulate each other on the game results. I know you will miss him, but what a long, wonderful life he had!
