John Foster

Sherrills Ford, North Carolina - John Thomas "Buddy" Foster, 94, of Sherrils Ford, NC formerly of Salisbury, NC passed away peacefully November 6, 2024 at his residence.
Born in Rowan County, NC he was the son of the late Lester Anderson Foster and Annie Lee Swink Foster.
Mr. Foster was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School, class of 1948. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University where he also played baseball and basketball on a full sports scholarship. As he was finishing college, Mr. Foster was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He continued to play basketball as a point guard for the Army, never losing a game. Also during this time he qualified for West Point but elected to enter IBM School thru the Army. He was discharged early from the Army to attend UNC Chapel Hill on the GI Bill where he received his CPA board certification. He then began his career as a CPA with Blevins and Benson Accounting in North Wilkesboro and continued with Smith, Grizette and Beach CPA in Lenoir and Caps Foster Accounting in Hickory until his retirement in 2002. Mr. Foster was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sons of the American Revolution, and Denver United Methodist Church where he started the Potato Ministry and coached Little League Baseball.
Along with his parents, preceding him in death are his brother, Lester Anderson Foster, Jr. and sister, Betty Ann Burgess.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 64 years, Treva Lee Hughes Foster; daughter, Judy McDaniel (Tommy) of Morganton, NC; son, John Kent Foster (Tamara) of Wingate, NC; grandchildren, Anthony DeMaio, Andrew DeMaio (Jisha), David DeMaio (Hannah), James Foster, Adeline Brooks (Zachary), Lyle Heeb; great grandchildren, Sadie-Elizabeth Demaio, Mary-Catherine Demaio, Wyatt Brooks, and Abby Brooks.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30am Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Denver United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 10:30am in the church sanctuary with Pastor Steve Autrey officiating. Burial will be at 12:30pm at Rowan Memorial Park cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
