John Hood Obituary

John Lee Hood, 62, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on April 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and devotion to his family and friends.

Born in Charlotte on September 7, 1962, John was the youngest son of the late Mildred Phillips Bost and David Louis Hood. He was also predeceased by his nephew, Hoge Ronemus. John is survived by his wife, Kathy Hood, and his son, John David Hood. He is also survived by his sister Millie Ronemus (Bill), brother Chuck Hood (Beth), and many nieces and nephews.

Because he was so much younger than his siblings, he had a great time leading his niece and nephews on adventures that are still a topic of much conversation and laughter today.

A graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and East Carolina University, John built a career in information technology at Hood Hargett and Associates, Wells Fargo, (previously First Union and Wachovia), and Bank of America. In between employment opportunities, John founded Bent Creek Games, creating learning apps for the iPhone, and Rexxman Mining Company, mining cryptocurrency.

As a lifelong learner, he was always exploring something new. His hobbies ranged from launching rockets, making wine, participating in paintball battles, and building computers from scratch. He loved to share these activities with his friends and family.

John met Kathy through the Charlotte Jaycees, where he was always the life of the party. As a director, he led fundraising efforts, devoting months to building and running Haunted Houses every Fall.

Above all, John was a family man. He valued time spent with his son, whether they were building something together, working on cars, playing games, or just talking about life. He loved family gatherings and vacations - especially at the beach or in the mountains.

John will be remembered for his loyalty, intelligence, sometimes inappropriate sense of humor, and the deep love he had for those closest to him.

A celebration of life will be held at Matthews United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 30 at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held afterwards in Providence Plantation (directions will be given at the church).
