Mr. Kampfer, 68, died on January 14, 2004 at home. Mr. Kampfer was born in Pleasant Valley, NY and spent all his early years there. Jack worked for the New York State Highway Department before joining IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1981 he transferred to IBM Charlotte, NC and retired after 31 years. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve Seabees in Poughkeepsie and retired from the US Navy in 1985. He was an active volunteer at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. He also had served as a tour host for Amtrak and as a Docent at the NC Transportation Museum. For many years he was the Sunshine coordinator for his cardiac rehab group. He was an active panel member for NFO in testing consumer products.
Mr. Kampfer married his wife, Shirley, who survives at home, on April 21, 1957 at Stanislaus Church, Pleasant Valley, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Brewster of Georgia; his aunt Josephine Champlin; his sister-in-law, Nanci Peluse; nephews, nieces and cousins, all of Poughkeepsie, NY. His nieces Susan Fiorito and Kristin Kondysar were very dear to him and he received great joy from their everlasting love and caring.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Jenny M. Kampfer, and his brother, Douglas Kampfer.
The family will hold visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, at McEwen Pineville Chapel, after which time a service will be held with the Reverend Henry Justice officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn East, Matthews, NC.
