John Triantis Obituary

John Phillip Triantis
May 17, 1929 - February 19, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - John Phillip Triantis left on his final journey to be with our Lord on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was born May 17, 1929 to the late Phillip and Spiridoula Triantis in Marathia, Greece.
John came to America at the age of 16 and reunited with the love of his life Paraskevi Karras, whom he married on February 24, 1952. Together, they settled in Charlotte, NC and raised their family of five children. John was proud of his service in the military at Fort Jackson where he learned to cook for a crowd. He was a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he put his talents to good use cooking for countless weddings, festivals, funerals and many other events at the church.
John loved sports and coached little league baseball and girls softball for the church, going so far as taking his teams to Atlanta for a Braves game. He owned several restaurants during his lifetime including the Clock Drive-In, Babe Malloy's and Bob's Family Restaurant in Midland where he became a beloved member of that community. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 261 Excelsior.
John was an avid gardener and supplied his neighborhood with an abundance of tomatoes and vegetables each summer. He enjoyed playing golf in his early years and later his weekly card games with his friends. John's philosophy of life was simple... put your faith in God, love and provide for your family and be charitable to those less fortunate.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Paraskevi (Voula); children, Maria Triantis, Nick Triantis and his wife, Kim, Phillip Triantis and his wife, Elaine, Frances Tsiabassis and her husband, Bobby and Stefanie Oxendine and her husband Bruce. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Alexa Richards and her husband, James, Leah Tsiabassis, Jonathan Triantis, Alex Triantis, and Evy Oxendine; two great- grandchildren, Barrett Michael and Riley Phillip Richards; brother-in-law, John Polites; five godchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Trifon and his sister, Lemonia Polites.
John may have been small in stature but he was always bigger than life!!
Funeral services for John will be private. A public walk through visitation will be held from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of John and his father (who was a devoted chanter) to the Chanter Stand Fund at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

So sorry to hear about John’s passing. He was the best neighbor in the world for the 20 years we lived across the street. Always kind, thoughtful and fun loving. Charlie and he loved to playfully “pick at me”, and he loved that I would give it right back. They would wink at each other, as they were trying to get a rise out of me! Dylan considered him to be his Papou as well from the time he was 3 years old and we will never forget the fun tricks we played on each other. We all shall surely miss him and loved him dearly. Our hearts go out to the entire family.
