Johnnie Thurman Obituary

RUBY -- Mr. Johnnie Sullivan Thurman, 81, died Monday, May 20, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Ruby Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Ruby Cemetery.
Mr. Thurman was born in Ruby, SC, a son of the late James Perkins and Mollie Sullivan Thurman. He was retired from First Citizens Bank in Chesterfield, SC. He was a member of Ruby Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director for many years. He served the community through his involvement with various organizations including the local school board, and was a member of Ruby Masonic Lodge 314. Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Maxcy Lemmon Thurman and his brother, Knox Thurman.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, John S. "Chuck" and Fran Thurman of Chapin, SC; daughter, Bernice Miller of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, John S. "Trey" Thurman III, Erin Miller, Elizabeth Thurman and Amy Miller; 3 sisters, Madge Davis of Hartsville, SC, Gladys Sutton of Florence, SC and Thelma Venters of Darlington, SC; and 3 brothers, David Thurman and Billy Thurman of Ruby, SC and Mickey Thurman of Mount Croghan, SC.
Memorials may be made to Ruby Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5, Ruby, SC 29741, or Ruby Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 3, Ruby SC 29741.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home is serving the Thurman family.
