February 15, 1936 - December 16, 2020
Brevard, North Carolina - Joyce Byers Maguire, 84, of Brevard, NC, died Wednesday, December 16th, 2020 at Tore's Home. Joyce was born in Lincoln County, NC, the daughter of the late Alva and Kathleen Byers. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband John Rae Hipp and her second husband Richard E. Maguire and her brother, Lt. Col. Rodney Byers
Joyce graduated from Brevard College in 1958 and retired from Bank of America in 1998. She was a runner and completed one marathon at the age of 49. She also won numerous cycling medals in the NC Senior Games. She loved traveling the world with Richard and her friends. She was a voracious reader and a faithful supporter of the Public Library. She loved the United Methodist Church, vacationing on Sunset Beach, time with the ladies of "The Bridge Club", attending the theatre and spending time with her grand and great- grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Katrina Cantler (Fred) of Brevard, Christie Earl (Wayne) of Charlotte, Clark Hipp (Susan) of Wilmington and Craig Hipp (Ava) of Lincolnton; stepchildren Dee Dee Mladsi (Scott) of Cary, Bridget Fiala (Jim) of Florida and Ian Maguire (Lorettajean) of Charlotte. Her surviving grandchildren are Natalie Canter (Matt), Hannah Hipp, Clay Cantler, Starke Hipp and Chloe Earl; step grandchildren Alex Neighbors (Charlotte), Mackenzie Chandler (Drew), Rowan Mladsi, Chase Mladsi, Will Walton (Vika), Liz Walton, Amy Maguire, and Mathew Maguire; and three great grandchildren.
All services will be private.
