Kenneth Cornwell Obituary

Kenneth Leroy Cornwell CHARLOTTE - Kenneth Leroy Cornwell, 79, of Charlotte, NC, died peacefully at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House on February 4, 2017, with his children by his side. Ken Cornwell, was the son of Walter and Alice Cornwell and the widow of Karin Stuart Cornwell. Ken is survived by his three children Kristin, Kyle, and Kendra, and two grandchildren Keira and George. Ken served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Captain, and was a graduate of Duke University and also received a Master's from the University of Chicago Business School in 1965. His professional career was spent working for DuPont as an Engineer and later as a Global Senior Purchasing agent, until his retirement in 1991. Ken thoroughly enjoyed his hobby of woodworking and making furniture for his family. Ken spent several retirement years in Southport, NC and cherished his time as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and living near the water. Ken spent his most recent years a true warrior, choosing a different direction and living a life of sobriety, a late in life accomplishment for which he and his children were quite proud. Ken also spent the last four years sharing his newly discovered talents acting in plays, painting and leading the singing group while living at Atria Merrywood in Charlotte, NC. Ken requested no funeral services and was cremated. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
