Larry Cloninger, Sr.

Concord, North Carolina - Larry Taylor Cloninger, Sr. passed away on June 24, 2024. Larry was born on February 5, 1933, to Miles and Sophia Cloninger. Larry was the youngest of ten children. He grew up in North Belmont, NC and was a graduate of Belmont High. In 1951, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Zetta Turner. Larry and Zetta would have celebrated 73 years of marriage in August of this year. Larry was a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean war. Larry started his career post Navy at Eastern Airlines but then pursued opportunities in the airfreight delivery business. Larry worked at Burlington Northern and as an entrepreneur at NC Delivery and Jetway. Larry loved Nascar, and you would find him glued to the TV or the radio during race season. Larry was a big reader and loved spy novels. Larry was a member and long-time volunteer at Berea Baptist Church. Larry and Zetta spent their early retirement traveling the country in their RV. Larry and Zetta had three children, Larry T. Cloninger (Mette), Wanda Cloninger, and John Cloninger (Katrina). Larry also has six grandchildren (Madison, Hailey, Devyn, Miles, Victoria, and Chloe), and five great-grandchildren (Leia, Elliott, Jaxson, Nora, and Saylor). Larry was preceded in death by his beloved dog Harley in 2023 and all nine of his siblings, and many beloved nieces and nephews. The Cloninger family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church.
