Lawrence Gildea Obituary

Lawrence David Gildea
'Larry'
Larry Gildea, 59, of Charlotte passed away on October 24, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Larry was born November 6, 1950 in Archbald, PA, son of Frank and Rita Gildea. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, son Patrick, daughter Katie, son-in-law Bret, and grandson Cameron. Larry also leaves behind many friends and extended family. Larry was preceded in death by his sweet daughter Molly. The thought of that reunion in heaven gives the family much peace and comfort. Larry was a man of the highest integrity and character who positively impacted everyone with whom he came into contact.
Larry received a Batchelor of Arts degree from Penn State University in 1972 and a Master's degree in Urban and Regional planning from Catholic University in 1977. He enjoyed a 26 year career in commercial real estate development with Liberty Property Trust, a career and company about which Larry was extremely passionate. Larry served as President of the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks. Larry was active as a member of Piedmont Horizons, the High Point Urban Design Task Force, and the Business Advisory Board of Duke Power. He served as Chairman of the Site Selection Committee of the Greensboro Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and of the Board of Education of Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Greensboro. He received a key to the city of High Point for his service and commitment to the city.
Throughout his real estate career, Larry focused on creating environments that would lift people's spirits as they went about their daily lives. During the past year, he became involved in the renovation and expansion of the Columbarium at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Larry and his family became members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in 2009. He was passionate about this project. The Columbarium is a peaceful place where the souls of those that have passed on can rest in peace and family members can enjoy quiet reflection.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Larry's memory be made to The Larry Gildea Memorial Fund for the Columbarium at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1000 E Morehead Street, Charlotte NC 28204 or The Lineberger Cancer Center at 101 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill NC 27514. The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1000 E Morehead Street, Charlotte NC 28204.

What a wonderful gathering of family and friends for Larry today. WOW, he and their family is so very loved. I liked especially the wonderful way Katie and Patrick expressed to all in attendance about their father, and things we did not know about this man we all love. I was honored to be a part of this celebration of people who mean the world me to me. I will do anything at all to help this family go forth with their lives. I am so happy about Katie and Bret having another baby!!To those of you who I have followed in the Caringbridge website, I feel like I know you so well.
To Anne, I love you like a sister, and will always be here for you. To Maureen, maybe some day we will meet.
Much Love,
Diane

Larry Gildea is one of those men who lights up a room when he enters. A party was not a party if Larry wasn't there. He treated our children like they were his own. They love the fact that he was always interested in what they were doing.
Our life was better having known such a wonderful person.
Molly, it is your turn to enjoy him now.
Love you forever Larry,
Diane
