LELA SIMPSON Obituary

Lela M. Simpson CHARLOTTE - Lela M. Simpson, 97, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Saturn Nursing Home. A native of Mecklenburg County, she was born on November 13, 1915 to the late James McLean and Alice Campbell McLean and was the last of seven children. Mrs. Simpson spent much of her life in the Waxhaw area, but upon the death of her husband, Charles Y. Simpson, in 1972, she returned to the Charlotte area. She was a member of Newell Baptist Church. A funeral to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, March 4th, at Newell Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Keith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral hour at the church. A graveside committal will follow at 3:00PM at Unity ARP Church Cemetery in Lancaster, SC with the Rev. Charles Hammond officiating. Mrs. Simpson is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, two nieces and eight nephews. Memorials may be made to Newell Baptist Church, 9115 Newell Baptist Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28213. Family and friends are invited to sign the online register book at www.mcewenderitachapel.com The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service is serving the Simpson family.

I have fond memories of Aunt Lela. I am so glad that my son, Jesse Watkins, was able to be a part of the ceremony and I enjoyed viewing the pictures that were posted online.
