Lloyd Rowell Obituary

LANCASTER -- Mr. Lloyd Harold Rowell, age 89, of 922 Meadow Drive, died Friday morning, November 29, 2002 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born October 22, 1913 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Mr. Louis Lestial Rowell and Mrs. Mayme Estelle Funderburk Rowell and was the husband of the late Mrs. Vivian Bailey Rowell. Mr. Rowell retired as owner and operator of Bailey & Rowell Shoe Store for 31 years, was a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge, a Life Member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, a Shriner with the Hejaz Shrine Temple, a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and deacon emeritus and trustee. Mr Rowell served our great country in the United States Navy during World War II, was a member of the Housing Authority where he served and received a plaque for his 25 years of service, was a director of the Charleston Southern University where an endowment scholarship fund was established in his name, was a past committee member for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Merchants Association and Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, the board of directors of First Citizens Bank, and was given the Jaycee of the Year award.
Mr. Rowell is survived by a brother, Mr. Joe Lee Rowell of Macon, GA; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lou Doris Jenkins of Lake Placid, FL, and Mrs. Yvonne Hough and her husband Max of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Rowell will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2002 at First Baptist Church by Rev. Rob O'Neal and Rev. Roy Barnes with entombment to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The Family of Mr. Rowell will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening, November 30, 2002 at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29720.
