Louise Holcomb Obituary

Louise B. Holcomb
Mrs. Holcomb, 93, of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at White Oak Manor. She was born, November 23, 1911 in Stokes County, NC, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Brookbank and Mary Belle Brittain Brookbank. She grew up is Forsyth County and later moved to Charlotte where she became a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Holcomb was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, sewing and particularly enjoyed poetry and even wrote a family book of poems.
Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo Barnes and her husband, Bob, of Charlotte; a daughter-in-law, Donna Bishop Jones of Winston-Salem, NC; granddaughter, Donna Melton and her husband, Alan, of Landrum, SC; grandson, David Barnes and his wife, Isabel, of Phoenix, AZ; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Melton and Noah and Lucas Barnes; and a sister-in-law, Edna Brookbank of Columbus, GA. Mrs. Holcomb was preceded in death two husbands, Wayne Clifton Bishop and Lum Holcomb; and a son, Mickey Finley Bishop.
Funeral services for Mrs. Holcomb will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel with Reverend Michael Cummings, Dr. David Barnes and Alan Melton officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston- Salem, NC. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, PO Box 31046, Charlotte, NC 28231.
