Margaret Hewitt Obituary

Margaret Crawford Hewitt DAVIDSON - Margaret Crawford Hewitt, 71, of Davidson, NC, passed away Sunday, 15th September 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Before beginning it must be noted that since the announcement of her death, which went viral, we received a multitude of emails from around the world, all with one message. She was the sweetest, kindest person with a wit and smile to match. Margaret was born on the 20 December 1941 on Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, England, first daughter of the late William Gleason and Agnes Miller Jack (Nance) Darling. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean and brother Andrew and is survived by sister Lyn, brother Gordon, son Tony, daughter Karen and husband John, along with grandchildren Ashlyn (12), Samantha (8), Lucas (8) and Daniel (6), and many loving nieces, nephews, and their children. (along with her horse, Mr. Pants). After graduating Alfred Barrow Girls School she had several jobs including a Chemist Dispensary and latterly, before marriage, as a Time Keeper and Wage Dispenser in the Naval Shipyard. In March of 1967 she married her husband John after four years of courtship and almost immediately set off for the USA where John had a job with Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post, NY. Both children were born in Corning, NY. In 1972 she moved to Pittsburgh, PA for two years, in 1974 to Horseheads, NY for two years before moving to Davidson, NC in 1976. Davidson became her home, between John's assignments. In 1980 John was assigned to the UK for five years where the children became teenagers, and in 1997 to Hong Kong for five years. In between these two foreign assignments John was assigned to Latin America from Davidson. In all these locations Margaret traveled extensively and was visible and active, and, with her natural charm beauty and kindness made friends in all corners of the world. Her passions were horse riding, badminton, grandchildren and she always had something on the knitting needles. In badminton she was the 2013 over 70 (years) mixed doubles champion with husband John. A visitation and reception of friends will be held on Monday, 23 September 2013 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home at 16901 Old Statesville Rd. in Huntersville between 6pm and 8pm. (phone 704 892 9669). Margaret will be cremated on Tuesday, 24th September 2013 and her ashes will be divided between Davidson and England. No visitations to this event. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church (DCPC) at 3:00pm on Wednesday, 25th September 2013 followed by refreshments at the Congregation House. It is requested that instead of flowers, donations be made to "Our Town's Habitat for Humanity". This is an organization building houses for the needy. There truly are no words to convey the magnitude of this loss. I thank you for welcoming me into your family for so many years and for the priviledge I experienced in getting to know Margaret (Mam). She will be greatly missed, but she will live on in the wonderful things she did for so many others.

Our sweet Margaret is now a Heavenly Angel. A kind and loving person that gave great hugs and smiles. I fighter against cancer and true to everything she believed in. Heaven is lucky to have her. I still have that sweet little white angel you brought me from one of your trips to Germany. I sat her on my piano and think of both of you when I play the piano. I have all of her family and friends in my prayers. RIP my beautiful Margaret. You will be missed.
