Mark Jones Obituary

Mark Jones
November 14, 1954 - April 24, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Mark Gregory Jones, age 67, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 following a lengthy illness. Born November 14, 1954, Mark was the son of the late Johnie Hooper Jones and Jane Covington Jones Myerly.
Mark spent much of his career with the J.A. Jones family of companies, an organization that grew out of the Charlotte-based J.A. Jones Construction Company, founded in 1890 by his great-grandfather, James Addison Jones. Throughout his career, Mark made many lasting friendships and enjoyed staying in touch with his friends and colleagues.
Mark traveled extensively for work and pleasure, but his happy place was Oak Island, where the relaxed pace, mild weather, and small town ambience suited his nature. He dreamed of returning to the place he loved and sharing it with family and friends.
He was a huge baseball fan—a love that developed early-on when he played Little League ball and was nurtured during his years at Myers Park High School, where he lettered in baseball. He was a Yankees fan for many years and often recounted how his first glimpse of Yankee Stadium brought him to tears. Among his most treasured possessions was a baseball signed by his hero, Mickey Mantle—a gift from his father. In later years, he became a die-hard Braves fan and was over the moon when they won the 2021 World Series.
Mark is survived by his beloved children, Meghan Styles Civera of Philadelphia, PA; Johnie Jamison Jones of Charlotte, NC; and Marley Jones (Adam) Marlow of Brunswick, GA; as well as four grandchildren, Campbell and Tilly Mae Civera of Philadelphia, PA; Evelyn Jones of Charlotte; and Wesley Marlow of Brunswick, GA. He is also survived by his sister Andrea Jane Jones of Charlotte, NC and brother Johnie Stephen (Janet) Jones of Oak Island, NC.
Mark cherished his dear companion, Tricia Hodge, and was deeply grateful for her unwavering care and support. During his stay at Asbury Long-Term Care Center at Aldersgate, he developed a deep respect and fondness for the facility's wonderful staff and medical personnel.
Donations in Mark's memory may be made to Aldersgate / Horizon Fund, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Mark was one of the first people I met upon my arrival at J.A. Jones Applied Research in 1984. He was always quick with a smile, a friendly word and willing to pitch in. My sincere condolences to his family. Godspeed Mark

I am so sorry about Mark´s passing. I will and still do remember the great times we had when we were younger. My biggest regret is we failed to keep in touch with each other over the years. Mark, I will miss you my dearest friend and know one day we will be able to be together once again.
To his family, Andrea and Steve, I was very lucky to have known Mark for those great years. They will never be duplicated.

Mark and I were fast friends for a long, long time.
He never lost his spirit during the struggles that eventually took him from us.
Oak Island was nirvana on earth to him.
Safe journey, bro. See you on the other side.

I was blessed to have worked with and known Mark through our time at JA Jones Applied Research Co. in the early 80´s to mid-90´s. He was always jovial and just a joy to be around and laugh. Our mutual love of baseball lead us to form one of the first Rotisserie (fantasy) Baseball Leagues. Mark was savvy in all his dealings and even though we lost touch over the years, I fell that we never lost our friendship. The world was a better place w/Mark in it. I´m crushed to know he´s now gone, but hopefully resting in peace. My sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Mark was like an older brother I never had. We met 10 years ago at our favorite hangout, Hawthorne's Pizza on Carmel Rd. Here where his picture hangs on the wall he is considered The Mayor. On Sunday afternoons, a tight-knit group of 20 plus close friends met regularly. Mark always spoke fondly of everyone, never a bad word. We are going to miss Mark dearly.

Mark worked for Metric during the period I was the President
He was in sales which suited his personality
Although a Jones; he never played it up. He did his job.
Sorry to hear of his passing
