Martha Peeler Obituary
SALISBURY -- Mrs. Martha Ann Houpe Peeler, 70, of 2620 Jonathan Street, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, after being in declining health for one year.
Born January 27, 1933 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Sadie Pauline Sherrill Houpe Rogers and William Benjamin Houpe. Educated in the Statesville City Schools, she graduated from Statesville High School. She was employed for Hoechst Celanese for 26 years before retiring in 1992.
An active member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Bible Class, the XYZ Choir, Dot Bolden Circle and served as assistant church hostess and chairperson of the Flower Committee. Mrs. Peeler enjoyed flower arranging, home decorating, traveling, fishing, shopping and was supportive of all her grandchildren in their activities.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Jimmy Houpe.
Survivors include her husband, Adam Lester Peeler, whom she married March 1, 1952; daughters, Pam P. Safrit and her husband, Cass, of Salisbury, Susan P. Stiller and her husband, Mark, of Mt. Ulla, Jayne P. Petrea and her husband, Chuck, of Rockwell; sons, Tim Peeler and his wife, Lisa, of Salisbury, David Peeler and his wife, Sarah, of Charlotte; brothers, Frank Houpe and John Boyce Rogers of Statesville; sister, Julia Kay Rogers of Statesville; grandchildren, Les-Lee and Samatha Peeler, Cassie Safrit, Calen and Corey Stiller, Adam and Hannah Petrea, Todd and Magen Shipton, and Owen Peeler.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM Monday at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Robert T. Heard, minister, and Dr. Ronald Heddle officiating. Mrs. Peeler will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends following the service until 9 PM in the Rhyne Building and at other times the family will be at the residence.
Committal service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville, Blvd., Salisbury.
