Mary Crouch Obituary

Mary Ann Corprew Crouch

October 25, 1932 - January 5, 2025

Matthews, North Carolina - Mary Ann Crouch, 92, passed away peacefully. Mary Ann grew up in the small town of Dadeville, Alabama. She graduated from Judson College in 1954 with a degree in Physical Education and Social Work.

Mary Ann was a faithful and loving wife to her husband of 69 years, George Sanford Crouch Jr. who preceded her in death. She was an amazing, loving mother to her three children, George Crouch III (Trip) and wife Judy, Kami Merritt and husband Ivan, Elizabeth Ricciardi and husband Phil. She was a proud grandmother of six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one more great on the way.

Mary Ann's faith and her loving spirit to help others, was an important part of her life. Early on in her married life, Mary Ann worked as a social worker for Mecklenburg County. She was a volunteer in the PTA, the Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, and their church. She was a member of The Charlotte Junior League. Mid-life was devoted to family, church, and helping her husband with his retail store as she used her creative talents making and designing Christmas and floral decorations. At their church Mary Ann continued volunteering, teaching, started a tutoring program, and served as a Deacon. Following George's retirement, she and George spent many years as volunteer missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention and Providence Baptist Church, sharing their love of God and Jesus around the world. Mary Ann loved chocolate, traveling, working with children, sharing her talents and time, caring for others, and making the world a better place.

Mary Ann was the kindest soul and loved by so many of us at Providence Baptist Church. What an honor to be just a minuscule part of her life as well as your dad's. Stewart and I were honored to serve on a mission trip to Honduras with them and learned so much about their passion for service to others. What a beautiful example of following God's call to the mission field both at home and abroad. Both of your parents are greatly missed by all of us who loved them.

I had the pleasure of getting to Mary Anne and George when they were in Togo, West Africa. Touched base with them again in Cote D´ivory. Once I returned to the states was able to visit with them a couple of times in Charlotte. Sending prayers to family as they say goodbye to a wonderful lady.

Trip, Kami, Elizabeth. I am so sorry for your loss of your Mom, Mrs Crouch. She was a very special lady with a heart of gold. She was always leading the way esp at Providence to help those in need. She put her faith into action! I´m also sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad earlier. They were two the finest people I knew and they raised a fine loving family that I know they loved and were proud of! Blessing always. Jack Upton.

She was one of a kind. God made a creative mold and not any other like her. It was a privilege and blessing to know her and her husband, George!
