Mary Lane Dudley Purtill

October 20, 1945 - May 17, 2024

Columbus, North Carolina - Mary Lane Dudley Purtill passed away on May 17, 2024 in Columbus, NC. She was born to the late Reverend and Mrs. A.K. Dudley in Wilmington, NC in 1945. She graduated from Concord High School in 1963 and Mary Baldwin College in 1967. Mary Lane taught school in Concord where she met her late husband Allan Purtill, Sr. They moved around the USA returning to Charlotte in 1987 where she lived until a recent move to Tryon. Mary Lane received her Master's in Library Science at UNCG. She had a long career as a librarian with CMS. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was an active member of Carmel Presbyterian Church and a member of the DAR.

Mary Lane is survived by children: Sheila Purtill (Mike Hill), Sabra Purtill (Andrew Vest), Traver Poston (Dave), and Allan Purtill (Jenny). She is also survived by four grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, two step-granddaughters, and a step-great grandson.

A memorial service will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church (2048 Carmel Rd, Charlotte) at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carmel Presbyterian Church at https://www.carmellife.org/.
