Michael Grose Obituary

Michael Leo Grose "Mikey" MOUNT MOURNE - Michael Leo "Mikey" Grose, 54, of Mt. Mourne, died peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. His battle with cancer, which he handled with grace and dignity was over and now he is free. Mike was a kind, gentle soul which was evident in all his many friends that came out February 10th to celebrate his life and passion for music. He was an outstanding guitarist, a true "Blues Man." He will be forever loved and forever missed; he left us far too soon. He was born on May 17, 1958 in Bradenton, FL, the son of the late Leo Page Grose and Pearl Washam Grose. Survivors include his wife Deborah G. Leazer of Mt. Mourne; sister, Lisa Hope and husband Chris of Easley, SC; nieces Meredith and Madison Hope; in-laws, Dale and Helen Mundy, Becky Carter, Ronnie and Judy Lowrance; and his best friend and confidant, Robbie Johnson. His brother Daniel Page Grose and his adopted grandmother Inez Fleming preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Shearer Presbyterian Church, 684 Presbyterian Church Rd., Mooresville, NC 28115. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday March 16, 2013 at Shearer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Stout and Rev. Brandon Meeks officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family. www.jamesfuneralhomeLKN.com

My friend Mikey, one of them Cornelius boys, school mates and guitar picker that I could never keep up with. I loved hearing and watching him play. The first time I heard Mike play, it was 1975 with Duck, they came over to our house with their guitars, we plugged in the amps in my bedroom and tried some tunes together. It was "Free Bird", Skynyrd, when I realized Duck and Mike have been practicing! So glad them boys stuck with it, lot of good times, I loved to come out and support the band! Thanks Mikey, I'll miss you till I see you again!
