Miriam Caldwell Obituary
Mrs. Caldwell, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at her residence at the age of 80. She was born on September 16, 1929 to Dr. Henry Von Murray and Maude Lea Culler Murray in Burlington, NC. She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1951 and was an elementary school teacher. She taught in Texas, Arizona and North Carolina. Mrs. Caldwell was a long-time member of A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church.
She will be remembered as an honest, Christian woman who loved her family, friends, church and her cat, Mittens. She had a gentle, quiet way about her and she loved to be outdoors, tending her yard or garden when able, and feeding the birds.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen M. McMillian and Jane Lea M. Boone, and her brother, Dr. H.V. Murray, Jr. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Ernest Dean Caldwell; son, Ernest Caldwell, Jr. of King, NC; daughters, Lisa Bowman and her husband, Tom, of Fort Mill, SC; Robin Allanach and her husband, John, of Stonington, CT; sister, Mary Nell Younger of Stevensville, MD; grandchildren, Gina Bowman, Daniel Bowman, Austin Bowman, Will Allman and Charlotte Allman.
Her remains will be interred in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC where her mother, father and sister Helen are buried. It will be a private family ceremony.
Mrs. Caldwell's family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to her long standing physician, Robert Yavorski, MD and Jim Gordon, P.A. The family would also like to thank her caregivers, two very special ladies, Kathy Brown and Arvella Tisdale for their compassionate care during her final days at home. They were a tremendous help to her and the family as well. A special thanks to a Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, her pastor, friends, family and neighbors for their loving support, especially during her declining health.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory be sent to A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, 8200 McClure Circle, Charlotte, NC 28216 or Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204.
