Nancy Amacher Obituary

Nancy Jean Amacher
July 15, 1941 - July 9, 2022
Indian Land, South Carolina - Nancy Jean Amacher, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on July 9, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the only child of Alfred George and Clara Florence (Luneburg) Anselment born in Troy, New York on July 15, 1941.
Nancy spent most of her childhood growing up in Elmira, NY. There she attended Hendy Avenue Elementary School and the Elmira Free Academy High School. One of the constant joys of her life through the years was Girl Scouting. She earned her Curved Bar while a troop member. She attended Camp Comstock as a child and later worked being a primitive unit and sailing counselor. She also was a leader for her two daughters' Girl Scout Troop. These experiences contributed to her love for teaching.
When a junior in high school she was awarded the Elmira College Key given to an outstanding student. She went to Elmira College and graduated with a BS degree in teaching.
On July 6, 1963 at North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, Nancy married her loving husband John William (Bill) Amacher whom she had gone to school with since the third grade. They have been married for 59 wonderful years. They then moved to Parkersburg/Vienna, WV where Bill was employed with E.I. DuPont Company.
Nancy's teaching career spanned 22 years teaching first grade at Vienna School and previously one year at Main Street School in Belpre, Ohio. She also substituted for an additional eight years in Vienna schools prior to her full time career.
While living in Vienna, Nancy belonged to the Vienna Woman's Club, and was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Parkersburg. She and Bill were members of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school.
The true loves of her life were her husband Bill, daughters Laura and Sally, and five grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, and unconditionally loving mother, a cheerleader for her grandchildren, and a loyal friend.
Among her many interests have been painting, reading, gardening, needlework, and travel. She loved spending time at the beach with all of her family. Also, she and Bill were able to travel to many countries. Some of her favorites were Ireland, Easter Island, and Egypt. She also enjoyed attending the Charlotte Pops Orchestra, and the Blumenthal Broadway Lights series.
Since moving to the Charlotte area (Bridgemill neighborhood in Fort Mill, SC) 17 years ago she has been a member of the South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Persian Pickles sewing group there. Living in Charlotte enabled her and Bill to have fun attending the grandchildren's school activities and sports, and having everyone at their home for holiday meals.
She is survived by her loving husband John William Amacher, and her adored daughters Laura Sue Walton (Brian) and Sally Ann Miller (Richard), and her five cherished grandchildren: John Michael Walton, Megan Elizabeth Walton, Maggie Anne Walton, Christopher Patrick Walton, and Katherine Anne Miller.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 2pm at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to A Childs Place in Charlotte and the South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.

So many times I chatted with Nancy and the other Pickles on Tuesdays as director of the SMPC Weekday School (Preschool).
I always enjoyed seeing Nancy and her infectious smile. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
