Ned McCall Obituary

Ned McCall DAVIDSON - Ned McCall peacefully passed away on November 7, 2014 with his family by his side. Ned was born on March 6, 1927, in Catawba County to the late Fred and Fannie McCall. After finishing high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning home, he graduated from Wingate Jr. College and Appalachian State Teachers College. In 1951, he began his 33-year career in public education. At the age of 26, he became one of the youngest appointed principals in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He went on to selflessly lead Hoskins, Long Creek, Paw Creek, Pawtuckett and Oakdale Elementary Schools, where he positively impacted the lives of thousands of students and their families. After retiring from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, he became co-owner of Carolina Door Specialties, a position he held for the next 17 years. Ned's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and he relished in all of these roles. He was also a sports enthusiast, lettering in basketball in college. In addition, he was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than attending any game involving a family member or friend. Ned was preceded in death by Dorothy, his beloved wife of 46 years, by his son, Ned McCall Jr., by his sisters Elizabeth Callaway and Ada Lee Sigmon, and by his brothers Fred McCall Jr. and Lewis McCall. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson with Rev. Jody Seymour officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman, 705 Griffith St., Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036 or to The Pines at Davidson, Residence Support Fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036. Ned is survived by his children, Randy McCall and wife, Tamala, of Sherrills Ford, Cathy Capps and husband, Dale, of Cornelius, and Mark McCall and wife, Rebecca, of Huntersville; grandchildren Kristin Jones and husband, Chad, Cori Goldstein and husband, Aaron, Adam Capps, David Filipczak, Shane Capps, Blake McCall, Hunter McCall, and Connor McCall; and four great-grandchildren. The family extends its gratitude to the caring and dedicated staff of The Pines at Davidson and to Hospice Lake Norman. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home is assisting the family. Dear Cathy and brothers. We have knowm you,Ned and your mother since he hired Louise as a teacher at Long Creek. I, Ron enjoyed playing golf with him in Mount Holly and even before that he was an usher in our wedding in 1953. It just feels like he is family and even more. We hate that we have just learned of his death and could only respond at this time, December 7, 2014. Needless to say how close we always felt to him and you. We could never forget all the years that have past.

Many years ago, Ned took me for my one and only motorcycle ride. We laughed about this memory at the McCall Reunion. He will be missed by all.

Randy, Kathy and Mark,
May God's peace be with you and your family during this time of loss, and always. I've lived a dozen places, but home will always be the corner of Brooklane Dr. and Cathey Rd. Sometimes I do a satellite view on my computer, to look at the house. It will always be home to me and y'all will always be who I think of when I think of neighbors. Ned (and Dot) were always just a phone call away, even in the middle of the night (more than a few times, as I remember). They don't make 'em like that anymore! Love y'all!

I will miss Uncle Ned in many ways. Though I did not get to see him often it was always such a treat when I did. He was always so interested in our family and was so good to mom when dad passed away.He was the last of that McCall generation and will be missed.

Cathy, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. I have fond memories of your dad being a friend to my mother at the Pines when they were seated at the dinner table, and so friendly when I'd meet him in the halls on visits. May your memories bring you comfort at this sad time.
