Charlotte, North Carolina - If you were fortunate enough to be loved by Pat LeNeave, you are indeed a lucky person. Pat was the ultimate giver, dog lover and friend to all. A native Charlottean, Pat passed away at age 86 on Sunday, July 9th surrounded by her children, sisters and friends. She was born to the late Dot and Waring Newman on May 28th, 1937; she was the middle daughter of three girls.
Pat graduated from Charlotte's Central High School in the class of 1955. Her first job after high school was as a dental assistant. Later, she became a stay-at-home mom for many years to her two children, two stepchildren and later to her youngest child.
Once her children were grown, Pat began working with non-profits. She was the Director of Finance and Operations at the Charlotte Rescue Mission/Rebound for many years. Pat worked at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Center and later was the Director of the Weatherford Senior Center in Texas. She finished her career in Charlotte at the Thompson Child and Family Focus organization.
Pat grew up attending the First Baptist Church in Charlotte and as an adult, she joined the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. Whether it was at church, work or on the sidewalk, Pat made friends wherever she went. She never met a stranger as her sweet spirit captivated all.
Prior to her death, she lived at Carmel Hills Assisted Living where she was loved dearly by the staff. Her family wants to publicly thank each of them for the loving care they gave.
Pat is survived by her three children Laura Dover, Henry Swanzey, Jeff LeNeave (Kimiko) and Kathy Swanzey, her grandchildren Nicole LeNeave, Emiko Toal (Desmond), Katie Hamm (Ryan), Troy Swanzey (Echo), and Paxton Swanzey. She leaves behind one great-grandson, Jett Hamm. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joanne Johnson and Linda Herring (Buddy). She was predeceased by her parents and a special granddaughter, Ashley Dover.
Her celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Sharon Memorial Park. Afterwards, there will be a reception following in the meeting room of McEwen Funeral Services (5716 Monroe Road), which is on the grounds of Sharon Memorial Park. All friends are welcome and the family would love for you to bring any photos you have of Pat to share on a memory table. To honor Pat, please wear purple if you are able, it was her favorite color.
