Paul Judge Obituary

Paul Leonard Judge MOORESVILLE - Paul Leonard Judge, 53, of Mooresville, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, doing what he loved-climbing tall mountains. He took his final steps on the southern Mexican volcano Iztaccihuatl, reaching his personal best altitude (15,000' AMSL). Paul lived life to the fullest and always had the next two adventures planned. He was inspiration and support for all around him to climb each of our mountains head-on. He graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Geology and was a 21-year employee of the Public Water Supply Section of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. Paul was a kind-hearted, gentle soul with an adventurous spirit and a passion for the natural environment. He was deeply involved with several water-related organizations including Climb For Water, Water For People, and the American Water Works Association, and served on the Mooresville Environmental Protection Committee. He was preceded in death by his father, William T. Judge. Paul is survived by his mother, Ella DeMartini Judge of Mooresville; sons, Michael T. Judge of Athens, GA, Johnathon C. Judge of Mooresville; significant other, Amy H. Hayes; sister, brothers, Mark Judge and wife, Barbara, Adam Judge and wife, Melissa; Ella Hayes and husband, Paul; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 21, at St. Therese Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Climb for Water, www.facebook.com/climbforwater. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the Judge family. 4 years later, thought the hole might be filled in a little. Not with Paul, I don't think that hole will ever go away. I miss my North Carolina "best friend" so much. You are in a much better place Pauli. Liz and I drink a toast to you every year on this anniversary. Called Michael again this year and we all raised a glass to you. RIP.

Paul was in the cycling class at Lowe's YMCA for a short time. He was always in the back row, usually quite close to me. All of us remember Paul and although some of us knew him briefly, he'll be well thought of as kind, friendly and interesting. So sorry his flame went out so early, but he will be well remembered.

My deepest condolences to the family. Paul lived 2 doors down from my mom and he always assisted her with carrying her groceries and spoke to her at church. My mom passed away unexpectedly 2 days prior to Paul. I wanted to make sure to reach out on to express gratitude to how he treated her.
May peace be with you all during this time.

I worked with Paul through NCWOA and as a member of the Asheville Regional Office of Public Water Supply. Paul always was a friend and mentor to me and I respected him greatly. He always had a smile on his face and was someone who made you feel at ease when with him. My heart felt feeling go out to all the family, his friends and co-workers in the Mooresville office. We all will miss Paul, but we have all been blessed to know him as a fine person and friend. God Bless You All!

Paul moved in across the street from us 12 years ago and from day one, he became our friend. Over the years, he became one of our best friends. We weren't part of the climbing, biking, hiking scene, but we watched him as he trained, and always enjoyed the stories and pictures when he returned. He was the kind of friend that would come over and help with car repairs, ride the motorcycle with, go to a concert, hang out by the fire pit and enjoy a drink. When he left for his trip to Mexico, we told him to climb high. He was so close to Heaven, he decided to keep going. We miss our friend every day and will cherish the memories we have with him.

I met Paul a few years ago on one of our New River trips in Virginia. As I paddled with him, I realized that we had a lot of things in common, scouting, paddling, hiking and all kinds of outdoor stuff. Last time we paddled he came with a 'new' boat that he had acquired from a farmer that didn't use it any more. What a catch! and he was so happy with the Looksha kayak. He was a fine fellow, and I always looked forward to seeing him again. This guy truly left this world doing something he loved. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his two sons.

I worked on the same floor as Paul for 9 years before my retirement. Never could walk past his office without stopping for a short chat. I visited the old office from time to time after retirement and always made sure I stopped by for another chat with Paul. I always felt better after spending a few minutes with a guy that you could not help but like.

What a tremendous loss. We met Paul while the boys were in scouts and in Faith Formation. We were always taken by his calm and gentle manner and obvious love for his boys. Michael and John, please know that your dad led a good life, was respected and had a big heart.

I am so, so sorry to hear this tragic news. Paul was one of the few current Public Water Supply employees who predated me, and in all of my dealings with him over the years I found him to be sincere, friendly, helpful, dedicated, and a truly valuable member of our team. This is a tremendous loss to his co-workers and friends. My sincere sympathies to his family. I know words can't make things better, but know he made a positive impact on a lot of people both in his individual dealings, and for all of the people he helped protect their drinking water.

Michael, John and the rest of the Judge family. I am sorry to hear of Paul's sudden passing. He was a great person and co-worker for the 5 years I was with PWSS. I always enjoyed catching up with him when I would visit the Mooresville Regional Office. May God bring you peace and comfort now and in the days ahead. Once again, I am sorry for all of you.
