Phyllis
June Criger Kumerow
February 19, 1921 -
October 18, 2011
June Kumerow enjoyed a full and wonderful life of devoted service to her family, nursing profession and church. Born the daughter of Ruby Sillik Swihart Criger and Franklin L. Criger, she graduated from Carey High School in Carey, Ohio, and earned her RN from Flowers Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. In 1943, she married her soul mate, Robert William Kumerow, who survives her. Following several years working as a surgical and ER nurse, she pursued pediatric nursing until retirement. An accomplished musician, June was the organist for Ascension Lutheran Church for which she also worked with the Altar Guild, circle groups and Stephens Ministry. Besides her husband of 68 years, June is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Kumerow Samet-Hanchey, and her husband, Vernon Hanchey, of Clayton, NC; her son, William Carl Kumerow, and his wife Dana Jordan Kumerow, of Charotte, NC; and her grandsons, Robert Solomon Samet, of Cary, NC, and Alan Ashton Samet, of Tampa, FL.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Harry and Bryant Company where the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service.
A private burial will be at Sharon Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in June's name to Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC.

Mrs. Kumerow was my nurse at Dr. Spaugh's office. I always remember her in her white dress and nurse's hat. She was very kind. Prayers and blessings to your family during this difficult time!

My children were blessed to have Nurse June at Dr. Spaughs practice. My son who is 44 years old remembers her with a soft voice and gentle touch. We know she is with God. Elaine Largen, Salem Suber, Katie Largen Miller.

I remember the first time I saw June, she was walking across your mom's front yard with her husband on a visit up north. She was so beautiful. Her mom, my great aunt Ruby had invited my mom (another Ruby(Ruby Woodward Foltz)named after your mother)and us up for the afternoon in Fremont. June sent my first granddaughter (Martha) a children's story book and a brush, etc. when she was first born. We cherish that memory also. She will be missed. Sorry for your loss.

I mourn my dearest friend. We share our grandchildren and our love to reminisce the past together. Here in Cary there are many who immediately remember Nurse June as the one who played airplane or bumblebee with them as she stuck the needle into their hinnies. She was loved by many for many reasons. I will continue to talk to her lontg distance til I can meet her again. (I am also old)

I remember Mrs. Kumerow from Dr. Spaughs' office..I always feared the grey haired nurse with the thermometer or the little razor tip to poke my finger, but I also remember how patient she was while I stood at that small table picking out my special prize for being so brave.God bless Mrs. Kumerow and her whole family. June was a wonderful lady. Her love for the Lord showed in everything she did. I remember her fondly during several ministry events we were involved in.
My Deepest Sympathy to each of you.

My family knew June Kumerow as Dr Earle Spaugh's "right hand". Ms Kumerow was caring and sympathic even when administering unwanted injections to therir little patients and always looked at the world through her rose-colored glasses. The depth of her caring was evident when she attended our daughter's funeral a scant ten years ago.
Sincere condolences,

Bob and children: We are sorry to learn of June's passing. What a wonderful person; my mother was very close to her. Mom, my husband and I enjoyed your last visit in Arlington. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
