Ralph Boone Obituary

Ralph E. Boone
Mr. Boone, 74, of Charlotte, was called to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born April 11, 1930 in Anson County to the late Jesse and Frances Boone. Ralph served in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Boone founded Southern Tree and Landscape Company in 1954. Mr. Boone's life is reflected by the care of trees in cities and states where his company worked. He and his wife were the first to pioneer large tree moving in the "60's in the Southeastern United States. He led a wonderful life that was centered around his family. He was a committed and devoted husband, a compassionate and caring father and the very best Papa. He was a very kind and gentle friend to many and always wanted to share his books, as he treasured the love of reading and wanted to encourage others. His heart was open to all. His last hours were spent looking at the beauty of spring.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Boone was preceded in death by brothers James Edward, Paul, and John Boone and his sister, Mildred Richardson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his devoted and loving wife of 46 years, Janet C. Boone of the home; his daughter, Melanie G. Boone Rountree, her husband Rick of Charlotte; and his granddaughters, who brought him much joy in his life, Ellis and Mary Grace Rountree. Also surviving Mr. Boone are his sisters, Evelyn McAllister and Lillian Harmon and her husband, Melvin, and his brothers, Vernon Boone and his wife Dot, Robert Boone and his wife Shirley, Anthony Boone and his wife Donna, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 25, 2004 from 3:00-4:30 PM at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road. A committal service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Jefferson, SC. The family will travel to Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a private celebration of Ralph's life where there are many treasured memories of time spent with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to The Gideon's International, PO Box 14800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800, as he would want the word of God shared with many, or to the children of the Special Olympics, 1325 G. Street NW, Suite 770, Washington, DC 20005, who make such a difference around the world.
Arrangements by National Cremation Service and Harry and Bryant Company, Charlotte.
