Rita Menzel Obituary

Rita Charleen Menzel
Mrs. Menzel, 63, of Charlotte died May 3, 2011. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 30, 1948. She was the youngest of five children to Robert and Genevieve Madden. She worked for Carolinas Medical Center for 20 years as a scheduler for the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Department.
Charleen is survived by her husband of 43 years, Stuart Menzel, of Charlotte; he never left her side and fulfilled his promise to remain with her until the very end. She leaves behind four children, Jennifer Menzel Cramer (Brett), Scott Menzel, Michele Menzel Saverin (Justin) and Todd Menzel. She was the best Nanny to 4 grandchildren, Lindsay Menzel Cramer, Carter Menzel, Maggie and Lillie Saverin. She is also survived by one sister, Maureen Korte and two brothers, Robert 'Bobby' Madden and Tim Madden, all from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Colleen Henderson. She will be forever missed by her family and friends. Charleen never gave up and fought her illness to the very end. She always said she fought the good fight. She doesn't have to fight anymore.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in the Day Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, also in the Day Chapel with Father Patrick Toole, Celebrant. Inurnment will take place immediately following the funeral Mass at the family columbarium at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Charleen's family would like to give a special thanks to all of her medical doctors and staff for their caring and never give up attitude. Thank you for making her journey one of dignity and positivity.
Heritage Funeral Home in Weddington will assist the family.
