Robert Allison Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Allison

December 3, 1937 - November 9, 2024

Mooresville, North Carolina - With deep sadness, the family of Bobby Allison announces his passing at the age of 86. He passed at home on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by family. He had been in declining health over the past few years but continued to give back to the sport he loved.

Bobby was the ultimate racer's racer and fan's driver. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his fans and would stop to sign autographs and have conversations with them everywhere he went. He was a dedicated family man and friend, as well as a devout Catholic.

Bobby was born in Miami, Florida December 3, 1937, to Edmond and Katherine Allison. He was the fifth child of thirteen. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judy; sons, Davey and Clifford; great-granddaughter, Eleanor; three siblings that passed as babies, and two sisters, Claire and Margaret.

He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Allison Farr and Carrie (Scott) Hewitt; 11 grandchildren, Brandon Allison, Tanya (Chris) McKay, Leslie (Joshua) Hinton, Ashley (JD) Corley, Heather Hill, Krista (Jordan) Sheinfeld, Robbie Allison (Julianna Patterson), James Farr III, Andrew Farr, Haley Hewitt, Zoey Hewitt; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Eddie (Penny) Allison, Donnie (Pat) Allison, and Tommy Allison, Sr.; and sisters, Pat (Albert) Moniz, Jeannie (Paul) Otto, Aggie (Donnie "DJ") Johnson, and Cindy (Tom) Kincaid.

Arrangements have not been announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Bobby's home church (St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, N.C.), your local Catholic church or diocese, International Motorsports Hall of Fame Preservation Society or Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Allison family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.

My Dad, William (Bill) Owens was a good friend of Bobby. They raced against one another on various tracks in Tennessee. My Dad always respected him, and told of many stories about the 2 of them. I cherish those stories as now both of these men are gone. Much sympathy to the family and friends of this true legend, Bobby Allison.

Prayers for the Allison family. I was a big fan of " Bobby". I still share a picture of me with Bobby. Bobby gave me his hat and autographed it, which I still have today. RIP

Remember being introduced to Bobby by Nathan Sims. I was an honor and pleasure knowing and working with both of them.

You will be missed by ALL! Thank you for your help of increasing awareness about organ donation through the many events of Save A Life Group. In honoring Davey, who saved 5 lives following his untimely accident in 1993, you made many fans aware of the power of donation. May you rest in peace my friend.

I met Bobby back in early 1967 while in High School. They had a Sports Show in Charleston WV and he was present as well as his cars were. When my Dad approached him Bobby said "My God its Mac McCracken" They were ol friends.
Bobby andDad chatted and Bobby ask who is this young man Mac? Dad replied this is my youngest son Jim. Bobby shook hands with me and hugged me in has massive arms. Then he looked at Dad and said is he a racer Dad replied Not at this time. Bobby allowed pics to be taken and he signed autographs for us. The he asked "Mac do you remember us racing against each other over near Weirton WV the night I put my car in the pond? Dad said yes I do and you and I lost the race.

Over the years we visited with Bobby at Hueytown and bird hunted with him.
Dad passed in 1991 and Yes Bobby came to West Virginia to Dads funeral services.
The last time I spoke with Bobby was 3-4 months ago I called his home and he knew exactly who I was. He told me "Jim I am done to finish my last race I am going home to heaven. We said our goodbyes and he wished me the best.

My Uncle, Wayne Vining from here in Waycross, Georgia was a friend of Bobby &Donnie. The Allison racing has always been a favorite of mine. Alot of tragedy thru the years. Just wanted to say to the family, that I'm thinking about you during this time.
