Robert Becker Obituary

Robert John Becker Jr., 65 of Gastonia, passed peacefully into glory on September 13, 2025. He was born July 25, 1960, in Baltimore, Maryland to Maj. Robert J. Becker Sr. (US Army Ret.) and Mary Frances (Shaw) Becker, and he was raised in Southern Pines, NC.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Christiana Becker; daughter, Victoria Foxx (Nathan); grandchildren, Beck and Magnolia Foxx; sister, Kay Becker Smith; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert was a 1978 Graduate of The O'Neal School in Southern Pines, NC and he received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Wake Forest University in 1982. He worked in retail management, financial services, staffing and human resources before beginning a career that became his passion, serving US veterans and active military personnel, as a Congressional staff member for the US House of Representatives in the 9th District of North Carolina. He served as the Military and Veterans Specialist and District Director under first Congresswoman Sue Myrick and later Congressman Robert Pittenger. Over a career spanning 17 years, Robert assisted over 10,000 veterans with VA medical and disability claims, benefits, discharge and other records requests, and coordinated the annual appointments to the US Service Academies. He also oversaw the operations of the offices throughout the 9th District.

He was the recipient of The Judge Harley Gaston Award for service to Gaston County and received a special recognition by the Nation of South Korea for service to the US Veterans of the Korean Conflict. He followed his Congressional Service with 4 years as Casework Director of The Independence Fund, a Charlotte-based organization serving catastrophically wounded veterans of the most recent Mideast conflicts.

Robert was a longtime member of Pisgah ARP Church, Gastonia, serving as a Deacon and an Elder and chairing the Worship Committee.

He was an avid Carolina Panthers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons fan for many years.

In honor of his passion for serving veterans, the family requests that memorials be made to the DAV at www. HELP.DAV.ORG or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Pisgah ARP Church, 3600 Linwood Road, Gastonia, with a celebration of his life following at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastors Bobby Duran, Jeff Smoak, Nathan Foxx, Rick Lewis and Tim Smith.

An inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

An online guestbook is available at greenefuneral.com.
