Robert Millard Lamb
'Bob'
Robert 'Bob' Millard Lamb of Charlotte, North Carolina died peacefully at Carolina Medical Center on February 1, 2011 after a gallant fight with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Bob was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on September 2, 1934 to the late Millard Filmore Lamb and Nellie Servold Lamb.
He is survived by his daughter Lesa Ann Lamb of Austin, Texas, and his son Robert Todd Lamb and wife Sarah and granddaughters Reagyn and Ryleigh of Matthews, North Carolina, along with Bubby and Snowman, his beloved bulldogs.
Bob grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he spent endless hours as a youth developing his love of basketball at the YMCA. He officially started playing basketball his junior year at Washington High School when he made both the Junior Varsity team and All State that year. After high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 where he continued to play basketball before being honorably discharged in 1957. Bob attended Augustana College from 1957 to 1961 where he not only met his future wife, Marcia Sue Mathiason of Grand Forks, North Dakota, but played as the star point guard for the Augustana Vikings.
After graduation, Bob took a teaching job in Agana, Guam with his wife, Marcia, from 1961 to 1963, where they survived the wrath of Typhoon Karen. He returned to the States in 1963 as the Recreational Director for the City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and to start a family. Bob eventually accepted a position with the United States Organizations (USO) Overseas Operations where he spent the next seven years working his way up the ranks from Assistant Director USO (Spain) to Director of USO (Turkey, Greece, Spain) and to Executive Director USO Pacific (Guam, Okinawa, Philippines, Taiwan, Korea) later obtaining the civilian rank of GS-16 (Rear Admiral), After returning to the States in 1973, Bob found his niche in the Carolinas in Sales for several paper companies before retiring from Garland C. Norris of Apex, North Carolina in 2005.
Bob was a loyal friend, trustworthy and kind hearted. He had knack for storytelling and reminiscing about his many overseas and life adventures. He had an eye for antiques and collectables. Bob loved nothing more than his family, dogs and friends.
His children would like to thank all friends and family, along with Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte during his last few months for their endless help and support. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Paw Creek Tavern where a celebration will be held in his honor from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

To the Lamb family. May you find peace in your memories of Bob. We met him only a few times but enough to know he was a special man with a kind heart and will certainly be missed by his family, friends and others with whom he came in contact.

to the Lamb family, Bob was a true and loyal friend. He was the kind of guy who if he was your friend, he would stand with you through thick and thin. I met him in Turkey at the USO. I will miss him more than I can describe. Leo Daughtry

Dad:
You were a wonderful father and my Best Friend. I will miss our endless talks and words of advice. Even though we will not be able to talk everyday at 5:00 pm by phone like we have for 20 years, you will be in my thoughts at that time and we can still talk. I love and miss you SO much!
Your Son...... I love you daddy!
